The signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU) for the Bike Friendly Hotel program between the management company NATTOUR AMKE and the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation (POX) took place during the 37th Philoxenia exhibition in Thessaloniki. The MoU aims to recognize the importance of using bicycles as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation and, more specifically, as a tourist activity aligned with sustainability goals and reducing environmental burdens and impacts on destinations and hotel businesses, which are members of the Federation. It also promotes the global trend of wellness activities and alternative sports tourism, providing both hotel guests and tourists with diverse mobility options within destinations.
The MoU seeks to assist POX and its businesses in introducing and promoting cycling activities, while simultaneously shifting towards more sustainable forms of tourism, ensuring their long-term environmentally friendly development. POX President Mr. Grigoris Tasios highlighted that “we are initiating an important effort to incorporate cycling into our activities and move towards the sustainability of our hotels.”
It should be noted that the certification actions under the “Bike Friendly” label are supported by the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Environment and Energy, with the goal of promoting the use of bicycles as a tool for sustainable development and a preferred mode of transportation for visitors.
