The ‘Bike Friendly’ certification is now under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport
The “Bike Friendly” certification is now also under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport. Specifically, on October 10, 2022, the Ministry granted its auspices to the activities of the NatTour organization under the “Bike Friendly” certification.
It is worth noting that on March 12, 2020, the Ministry of Tourism placed NatTour’s cycling tourism activities under its auspices with the “Bike Friendly” certification. Later, on April 19, 2021, the Ministry of Environment & Energy also granted its auspices.
The endorsements from these three ministries represent consecutive distinctions for NatTour in its efforts to develop and promote a network of bike-friendly hotels, partners, and destinations, as well as to advocate for the use of bicycles as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation. These distinctions also highlight recognition of the organization’s initiatives in promoting sustainable tourism and mobility.
The certification is an initiative of the non-profit organization NatTour, which, since its founding in 2016, has focused on environmental protection and the development of alternative, thematic forms of tourism. It prioritizes cycling tourism and promotes the use of bicycles as an eco-friendly transportation option.
As part of this initiative, NatTour has helped establish a network of 130 bike-friendly hotels and 8 bike-friendly municipalities, catering to both visitors and locals. Additionally, a network of 40 partners (including cycling companies and travel agencies) supports cycling tourism by providing comprehensive services to cycling enthusiasts.
Moreover, NatTour has played a significant role in promoting and marketing the members of the Bike Friendly network (municipalities, destinations, hotels, and partners) and attracting tourists who either wish to explore various areas of Greece by bike or simply use bicycles during their holidays.
