The collaboration between Bike Friendly and Paths of Greece focuses on joint actions within the framework of tourism sustainability, further developing the culture of hiking and cycling among both visitors and residents of Greece, as well as expanding the network of trails and certified businesses that cater to thematic tourism enthusiasts.

The development of thematic tourism is at the heart of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the non-profit organization NatTour – Bike Friendly and the social cooperative enterprise Paths of Greece, signed by representatives of the two organizations.

Cycling and hiking, which have become prominent activities sought by visitors to Greece in recent years, are further strengthened by this memorandum between two organizations that have long been pioneers in promoting hiking and cycling tourism in Greece.

The focus of this collaboration is on joint actions related to tourism sustainability, the further development of hiking and cycling culture among visitors and residents of Greece, and the expansion of the network of trails and certified businesses that cater to thematic tourism enthusiasts.

The memorandum was signed on June 30, 2021, by Ms. Vicky Karantzavelou, Public Relations Officer and Marketing Director of NatTour, and Mr. Foivos Tsaravopoulos, President and Manager of Paths of Greece.

The “Bike Friendly” label is an initiative of the non-profit NatTour, which, since its founding in 2016, has aimed to develop a network of Greek destinations and businesses that are friendly to cyclists’ needs. The development of the “Bike Friendly” label is carried out in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (HSPN). NatTour and its network of certified partners have helped many Greek destinations and businesses gain a “cycling identity,” while also providing organized cycling services and making it easier for tourists to use bicycles during their vacations. Since March 2020, the “Bike Friendly” Certification has been under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, and since April 2021, it has been supported by the Ministry of Energy and Environment.

The Social Cooperative Enterprise Paths of Greece has been actively involved in the development of hiking and cycling tourism in Greece and abroad for a decade. With international expertise, a passion for nature, and knowledge of the culture of Greece, and always in close cooperation with local communities, the Paths of Greece team designs hiking and cycling networks that fully meet the needs of the modern hiking and cycling audience.

Statements:

Foivos Tsaravopoulos (Paths of Greece): “When designing a cycling network, it’s not about what you like, but what appeals to the audience you want to attract. Based on this principle, we design modern cycling networks for rich experiences in every corner of Greece.”

Vicky Karantzavelou (NatTour – Bike Friendly): “The success of our network in promoting cycling is based on our hard work and our partnerships, which strengthen every effort we make. We continue our dynamic efforts even in this challenging time for tourism, choosing the best collaborations.”
