The Kos Cycling Club of Alter Bike Tours, with the support of the South Aegean Region, the Municipality of Leros, and led by MTB athlete Mr. Fanouris Kontogiorgakis, announced the official Youth Project mountain bike race on April 13-14, 2024. This race serves as a Pan-European qualifier for participants aiming to compete in the European Youth Championship MTB U17 U15 in Sweden.

This series of races offers prizes and qualification for the European Championship, where the winners of the Youth Project will receive a round-trip air ticket to Sweden (Husqvarna), where the European Youth Championship will take place in 2024.

Prizes and gifts will be awarded to the 2nd to 5th place athletes in each category, along with additional support that will be announced later.

The Kos Cycling Club chose Leros as the location for the race, which will also include an interclub competition across all categories. These races, organized through the dedicated efforts of Mr. Kontogiorgakis, aim not only to achieve athletic excellence and participation but also to promote the island and support the local economy of Leros.

Leros, part of the “Bike Friendly Destinations” network, is an ideal cycling destination. Thanks to the presence of the Cycling Club, the efforts of the Municipality of Leros to promote cycling, the involvement of private individuals specializing in hosting and servicing athletes and cyclists, and the island’s favorable geomorphology, Leros is a perfect destination for both individual and organized cyclists (sports clubs, teams, etc.).

To assist and facilitate cyclists, many of the cycling routes in Leros are well-marked, with trash bins placed along the paths. The mapping of cycling routes across much of the island is also noteworthy, and visitors can find maps of the network of trails and cycling routes at the island’s tourist entry points and other locations.
