Bike Friendly label hosts events at Philoxenia

The Bike Friendly label, awarded to hotels and destinations that are bicycle-friendly and raise awareness among tourists about cycling, will organize an event on Saturday, November 11th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Hall B at the “Nikolaos Germanos” Conference Center during the Philoxenia exhibition. The event will include a presentation on Greek cycling destinations, with the participation of the Mayor of Skiathos, Mr. Theodoros Tzoumas, the Mayor of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Giannis Zamboukis, Mrs. Maria Pappa, Tourism Marketing Consultant for the Municipality of Aristotelis, and Mr. Evangelos Kyriakou from the Municipal Enterprise of Edessa.

The event will feature an interesting presentation by Lawyer Mr. Lazaros Pavlidis on the legal issues faced by bicycles and hotels offering bike rental services. Additionally, Mr. Michael Maier, Bicycle Tourism Officer at the German Cyclists’ Association (ADFC), will present on the topic: “German cycle tourists – Profile and target groups.”

Afterward, a panel discussion will take place with hotel representatives and a presentation of best practices, while Mr. Christos Petreas, Marketing Consultant, will present on cycling and its use by individuals aged 50+, as the average age of cyclists is 52 years.

Later that afternoon, on Saturday 11/11/2023, at 4:00 p.m., another event will take place at the Bike Friendly booth in Pavilion 13, stand 30, titled “Cycling routes and signature dishes of Megali Panagia” by the Municipality of Aristotelis.

Furthermore, there will be a presentation of the Bike Friendly Label on the Open Stages, titled “Bike Friendly Label: The future of tourism lies in sustainable transportation,” on 10/11/2023 at 3:00 p.m., Pavilion 14.

The Bike Friendly label is awarded to hotels, municipalities, destinations, cycling companies, and travel agencies that meet a set of criteria for serving cycling enthusiasts, creating a “cycling identity” for the destination, and facilitating tourists in using bicycles during their vacation. The Bike Friendly label is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment and Energy, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. It has signed cooperation agreements with HATTA, POX, PODIX, and various regions with the aim of expanding the use of bicycles as a means of sustainable transportation. So far, the label has been awarded to over 130 hotels, 9 destinations, and 60 partner companies. Additionally, many travel agencies in Greece and abroad have received the Greek Bike Specialist label, giving them the opportunity to connect and collaborate with Bike Friendly members.
